Trevor B - yes, that could very well be the case. But not sure why West Ham always seem to suffer from this more than other teams who also don't comprise "Galacticos"

I think it can be often that players don't want a break, they want to be playing, perhaps they mentally switch off a little without competitive games?

I think mentally the idea that if you get knocked out in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup you will go on a holiday is all wrong.
I would announce that the two week break would start with a week of physical work.
Run til you VOMIT for 5 days
Certainly wouldn't leave the country.

And I don't think the Dubai jolly's helped much in recent years either.
Seems strange that despite not having many players called up for internationals, we always seem to do shit straight after such breaks also

It's a wierd reward/ consolation for getting knocked out of the fa cup early, and doesn't ever seen to reflect positively in results after.
A complete waste of time and money.
Stop doing it.

Warm weather training and pissed down all week. Fucking waste of money and proves it was also a waste of time.
We have got absolutely nothing out of this trip. Next season they should send them on some hard core boot camp and see if that is more effective.

I think this has had a factor... The thing is the last summer holiday ended in November so don't understand why they'd start the new one in March!
